A syllabus class. Fred gave me the syllabus and I kind of read over it a little bit. So we are both trying to get our bearings down for the journey ahead.
Started a quick warm up consisting of
- sprints up the studio and back pedal x 5
- 20 Jodan tsuki, chudan tsuki, chudan mawashi, jodan mae, hiza
Warm up on bag:
- More or less tried to get a good camera angle for the bag and now I know where to put it.
Workout goal:
****Apologize ahead of time for the music. I did not have a round timer with so I just put my ipod on full blast and just waited till the song was over for a 3 minute round. ***
* Goal: 4 x 3-minute rounds – Skill emphasis
* Actual: 2 x 3-minute rounds
Would like to focus on building up a strong lead left jab and power left hook. I did not throw any left lead hooks at all. I should focus more on throwing combination of four or more. Variety in technique rounds instead of 1-2-mawashi.
I gassed myself out in the first 45 seconds by punching fast instead of concentrating on technique. Recovered by throwing jab, jab, gyaku. same as last work different combinations of 4 or more. Add in footwork during these rounds. I'm not sure about the pace for a technique round.
*** Did not have a third round because someone came in and started punching on the bag as I was setting up and resting. Reminder next time to close the door.
* GOAL: 4 x 30-second punch-out drills
* Actual: 2 x 60-second punch-out
Technique went out the door! Hands dropping all over the place. The guy that came in was talking to me during my rounds so I had to cut them short. Need to increase the intensity and frequency.
Went over the time allowed for this round because I was going to leave after this one. The guy was asking WAY too many questions and I did not like where the questions were going. There was a break in the song so I thought the round was over. Need to increase the intensity and frequency of the combinations. Would like to have a more reliant combination for power other than 1-2-mawashi. The guy says at the end, "You run out of breathe too fast." The goal of the round was 30 seconds so I just smiled and said, "Thank you." Stretched and went downstairs.
I did a short heavy lifting (accidentally switched exercise).
3 x 5 rep DB Snatch
3 x 5 rep DB Clean and Press
2 x 4 weighted Pull up
Overall: Syllabus day to try and get my bearings for the semester ahead. me and fred have got a lot of work to do. Did not hit all the targets on the heavy bag but I will next class time.
