Osu!
I am not too proud of this session. My mental game was off and my body felt like it had been drinking and eating crap all weekend. So I went in there with the mentality to just slug it out without a:
- Game Plan. I went in there with the with the mindset to just throwdown and survive for the round. Did not work on the jewels that so many of the members have clued me in on. I missed out on:
* Combinations of greater than 4
* Shorten the stance
* Head upright
* Working in better footwork
The best thing to do is to throw in some shadow boxing sessions during the week that emphasize some of the things that I would like to work on with Fred. I am just cheating myself if I go up there and work on something that I should have trained for. The 3 minute rounds should work on technique but not for learning new technique. Round simulation at 60 - 70% power. Speed at 100%
- Mental Game. Excellent thread started by Gary Shihan. Round 2 I was chugging along working on my left jab and left lead kick followed by switch kick. I tagged a nice dead spot on Fred's thigh (which feels like stone) and hit that nice muscle on the leg instead of the shin. I tried my best to keep going but I can see my spirit and mental toughness drop significantly. I tried to punch through it. Still have to work on that. Keep going. On the subject of Gary's thread I wonder if I could keep going if it weren't being video taped. Would I just sit down take a few minutes and then go? I would like to think that I would persevere through it all.
Warm Up:
Round 1:
Goal: 3 Minutes
Actual: 3 Minutes
I'm okay with this round. Would like to continue working on some of the jewels mentioned above and make it second nature like oi, gyaku, gedan mawashi. Variety would be nice too.
Round 2:
Goal: 3 Minutes
Actual: 4 Minutes
About 1.5 minutes into the round I hit a dead spot with my muscle instead of shin on Fred’s thigh (which felt like stone). I tried to push through it and put the lead leg in the back and jab out with my right hand. My fighting spirit was down and something I should keep up even higher through injury. Not very happy with this round would be worth it if I pushed through it but it looks like I was just hanging out there like a carrot.
Do or do not, there is no try. ~ Yoda
Round 3:
Goal: 3 Minutes
Actual: 2:30 Minutes
I opened the round with a hidari gedan mawashi to let Fred know that I wasn’t going to chump out this round. The beginning pace is nice and I think that should be my goal for future 3 minute rounds with Fred. Started to slow down at the end. I’m going to stop with the blocking of Fred’s imaginary punches. It’s his legs that hurt like ****.
Round 4 – 6
Goal: 3 x 1 minute
Actual: 3 x 1 minute
Punch out drill and throw in gedan mawashi geri. It’s not for power or technique. Throwing as many punches and kicks as I can in 1 minute.
Round 7
Goal 1 x 3 minute
Actual 1 x 3 minutes
Not happy with this round either. It looked like I was just getting it going through the motions and not really thinking it through which is emphasized at the beginning of the post.
Overall: Not too happy with my workout.
